3D Cherry Blossom Tree

The above image is of the rendered trees, and the wireframe models to which I applied the textures. The tree on the right is actually the same model from the left, but a deform modifier was used to change the look.

Mountain Sky and Process to get there


I first posted this sketch on my sketchblog and liked the layout, so I though I might try to do a little more of a paintover and try to add detail. To get to the above image, I first loaded up my sketch, then overlayed some detail from an earlier piece I did (above far left) on the mountain. After that I painted in the snow look, and finally added the 3 following pictures in various layer modes. I tweaked them as well, taking pieces out and sizing them until I liked the outcome.

New Header for the Sketchblog

I added a different header to my Sketchblog. It is a combination of sketches I made with the Sharpie Fine tip pen, and overlayed in photoshop.

Leaves on Both Trees




Here's a few shots of my trees with leaves on them. This was practice for filling out trees using two different type of leaf texturing options. They have a higher number of polygons than I need to shoot for, so while they look decent enough, I need to cut down the number of leaves that I use to fill them out.

Inset: The tree model I created. Then did a paintover in photoshop with one of my custom leaf brushes, added some fire and smoke, and then lighting on the leaves with an overlay layer.

Web Update

I spent today updating my portfolio site so it had more relevant work to show, and in the process also figured out a little more actionscript. It was a long day, but the end product turned out quite nicely. The Portfolio Site of Josh Sheck
